Bill Boes

Born in Santa Cruz California.

Studied Film and Art at San Francisco State University.

Inspired by Ray Harryhausen, my childhood was spent building models and puppets and animating stop motion films in the garage.

Helped create the "Micro Machines Pocket Playsets" at Lewis Galoob Toys.

One of my early film projects introduced me to director Henry Selick. He later hired me to build five stop motion Lizard Puppets for his short entitled "Slow Bob in the Lower Dimensions".

Selick then hired me as a model builder for “The Nightmare Before Christmas”.

I was promoted to Assistant Art Director by Academy Award winning production designer Rick Heinrichs. I assisted him in building the design model for Halloween Town among other things.

After Nightmare I Art Directed the stop motion/live action feature James and the Giant Peach.

In 1996 I was hired by production designer Nigel Phelps as assistant Art Director on Alien Resurrection.

Over the next few years I sharpened my skills as an Art Director and worked on numerous heavily art directed features including 'Sleep Hollow" which won the Academy Award for best Art Direction.

Henry Selick asked me to Production Design his animated/live action hybrid feature titled "Monkeybone".

Over the next decade I designed numerous features, including the highly popular Scooby Doo franchise.

My fantasy background has allowed me to design many visually stunning projects including several in the growing Horror and Thriller genre, where my imagination has been a huge asset.

I am proud to say that I had two pieces in Tim Burton’s Art Show. My sketch of Dr. Fincklestein holding a lantern from “The Nightmare Before Christmas” served as the inspiration for that scene, and a sketch from Tim Burton's “Planet Of The Apes.”

I am always delighted to have the opportunity to express myself artistically through film. I enjoy telling the story with visuals. My background in animation has taught me to constantly be aware of how visuals can motivate story and how images can affect emotion, mood and thought. What I most love is traveling the world, meeting different people and working in different cultures.

I am always learning, and always inspired.
